Course Description

The courses below reflect our careful consideration of materials that are relevant to safety and regulatory issues surrounding the aviation maintenance environment. These courses combine together for the 8 hour course requirement for IA Renewal, the entire course offering is $59. Access to all courses terminates April 2nd.

The Dirty Dozen of Human Factors is a half hour credit course. The Dirty Dozen are the twelve identifiable human factors that are prevalent in the chain of events that leads to an accident. This introduction will introduce you to the way in which these elements factor into the workplace.

The Curse of Complancy is a half hour credit course.Identified as one of the Dirty Dozen of Human Factors, complacency is a key problem in the aviation maintenance industry. Blue Tuna interviewed Repair Station Managers, technicans, quality managers and FAA Inspectors and across the board Complacency ranks as one of the dirtest dozen. This 30 minute presentation will introduce you to a general review of complacency in everyday life and then tighten up the focus of the lesson to examine how complacency finds a footing in aviation maintenance. The lesson also contains graphic footage of a retelling of Aloha Fligth 243 to drive home the problem with complacency in aviation maintenance. Cures for the Curse of Complacency offers pratical advice on guarding against this deadly human factor.

Driven to Distraction is a one hour credit course. Distractions has been identified as one of the Dirty Dozen of Human Factors. Utilizing three case studies the cause and outcomes of distraction are clearly identified. Multitasking is closely examined as a culprit in the maintenance environment. Case studies include two recent aircraft maintenance occurrences and the MetroLink train disaster. Valuable research concerning multitasking performed by the FAA is included in this course. This course is fast paced, the case studies and overview of problems associated with distractions makes this a must course for any company involved in production or maintenance in the aviation environment

Crimping & Stripping for Terminations is a half hour credit course. This course is designed to provide the student with the general basic knowledge of hand tools for crimping and stripping for quality terminations. In the course you will learn: Basic Wire Terminations; Contacts and Terminals; Wire Strip Lengths; Correct Wire Cutting; AWG and CMA; Inspection of strips and crimping and avionics hand tools.

FOD Introduction is a half hour credit course. FOD aka . . . Foreign Object Debris / Foreign Object Damage is a problem across all sectors of aviation maintenance. This is an introduction to FOD that will create a FOD awareness among your employees, reveal the human elements at work in relation to FOD and finally, present basic prevention strategies.

SUPs Introduction is a half hour credit course. It is the responsibility of every repair station to protect their supply chain. Suspected Unapproved Parts (SUP) is a very real problem that threatens the supply chain of many companies.

ESD Introduction is a half hour credit course. From the time new electrical / electronic products or ones sent in for repair hits the receiving doors workers must be careful to prevent electrostatic discharge. This training focus on: How static electricity works? What is ESD? How ESD occurs? Types of damage caused to devices that have been exposed to electrostatic discharge are reviewed and strategies for ESD prevention both on the bench and throughout a facility are discussed. Care is given to the whole company, ESD situational awareness is emphasized for every employee.

Battery Installation and Maintenance is a one hour credit course. Thanks to Concorde Batteries for this excellent training for the Installation and Maintenance of Lead Acid Aircraft Batteries. The following topics are covered, Battery Life, Types of Lead Acid Batteries, Safety Precautions, Battery Ratings, Battery Installation, NiCad vs. Lead Acid Batteries, Testing, Charging - Discharging, Battery Condtioning, Battery Removal and Disposal. This one hour training course is packed with information covering a full array of topics on installation and maintenance of batteries for Aircraft applications.

Part 43 CFR is a one hour credit course. PART 43, Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance, Rebuilding and Alterations Training is an in-depth review of PART 43 of the Federal Aviation Regulation. The course contains eight modules or subject areas. We begin with the overview of the regulations. The Meaning of the Term Airworthy; Applicability; Who can work on an aircraft; Who can sign a log book; Performance Rules; Record Keeping and a Summary.

Airworthy CFR is a one hour credit course. Airworthiness is a critical issue in the aviation industry. This one hour training course focuses on issues the mechanic must face as he or she deals with the issue of the airworthiness of aircraft and components. The study includes a close look at the definition of airworthy, the subject of acceptable and approved data, maintenance entries, and the problems associated with compromise in the aviation industry.

Major Repairs and Alterations CFR is a one hour credit course. Major Repairs & Major Alterations is an in-depth review of regulatory requirements for major repairs and alterations. This review includes data requirements, airworthiness and performance standards, the STC Process and the FAA Field Approval Process. The STC and Field Approval Process is reviewed step by step.
